Brian Fagan
VICE PRESIDENT OF FINANCE AND TREASURER
Mr. Fagan is Vice President of Finance and Treasurer of Northwoods Energy with responsibility for corporate finance and treasury related functions. Mr. Fagan has worked in the oil and gas industry for 15 years at both private and public entities.
Mr. Fagan was most recently the Chief Financial Officer of Action Energy LLC, a private-equity backed exploration and production company focused on the Eagle Ford Shale. In addition, Mr. Fagan held roles of increasing responsibility within the finance and treasury departments at Jonah Energy LLC and Forest Oil Corporation.
Mr. Fagan holds a B.S. in Business Administration from the University of Colorado at Boulder.
Dalan Haase
Mr. Haase is the Chief Executive Officer of Northwoods Energy responsible for day to day operations of the Company.
Mr. Haase has 25 years of industry experience participating in significant discoveries and development of oil and gas resources across the Rocky Mountain Region. Most recently, Mr. Haase was the Production Operations and Planning Manager of Anschutz Exploration Company focused on the Powder River Basin. Prior to Anschutz, Mr. Haase was the Operations Manager of EOG Resources responsible for operations in the Powder River, Williston, and DJ Basins. Mr. Haase has a proven track record of managing technical teams dedicated to operational and development success.
Mr. Haase has a B.S. in Petroleum Engineering from University of Wyoming and an M.S. in Petroleum Engineering from Texas A&M University.
Christine Hommes
Principal at Apollo Management
Ms. Christine Hommes joined Apollo in 2011 and is a Principal in the Natural Resources group. Prior to that time, Christine was an Associate at First Reserve and prior to that a member of the Power & Utilities Group at UBS.
Christine currently serves on the boards of directors of Talos Energy, Chisholm Oil & Gas, Momentum Minerals, Roundtable Energy, and Northwoods Energy.
Christine graduated summa cum laude from the University of Pennsylvania with a BS in Economics and a BAS in Systems Engineering.
Geoff Strong
Senior Partner at Apollo Management
Mr. Strong is a Senior Partner at Apollo Private Equity having joined in 2012, and is focused on the Firm’s natural resources activities. Prior to that time, Mr. Strong worked in the Private Equity group at Blackstone, where he focused primarily on investments in the energy sector. Prior thereto, Mr. Strong was a Vice President of Morgan Stanley Capital Partners, the private equity business within Morgan Stanley.
Mr. Strong serves or has served on the boards of directors of the following Apollo portfolio companies or affiliates: Apex Energy, Caelus Energy, Chisolm Oil and Gas, Double Eagle Energy I, Double Eagle Energy II, Double Eagle Energy III, Great Salt Plains Midstream, Momentum Minerals, Northwoods Energy, Roundtable Energy, Tumbleweed Royalty, and Vistra Energy.
Mr. Strong graduated summa cum laude with a BS in Business Administration from Western Oregon University, graduated cum laude with a JD from Lewis & Clark College, and graduated with an MBA from the University of Pennsylvania’s Wharton School of Business.
Greg Beard
Senior Partner and Head of Natural Resources at Apollo Management
Mr. Beard is the Global Head of Natural Resources and a Senior Partner at Apollo, having joined the Firm in 2010. Mr. Beard oversees all investment activities in the energy, metals and mining, and agriculture sectors. Since Mr. Beard joined the Firm, Apollo private equity funds have invested or committed to invest approximately $13 billion in twenty-three natural resources-related investments.
Previously, Mr. Beard was at Riverstone Holdings, an energy focused private equity firm, as a founding member and Managing Director. He began his career as a Financial Analyst at Goldman, Sachs & Co., where he played an active role in energy sector principal investment activities.
Mr. Beard currently serves on the boards of directors of Apex Energy, Caelus Energy, CSV Midstream, Double Eagle Energy I/II/III, EP Energy, Jupiter Resources, Northwoods Energy, Pegasus Optimization Managers, LLC, Roundtable Energy, Talos Energy, and Tumbleweed Royalty, LLC. He previously served on the boards of directors of Athlon Energy, Belden & Blake Corporation, Canera Resources, CDM Resource Management, Cobalt International Energy, Eagle Energy, International Logging, Legend Natural Gas I – IV, Mariner Energy, NRI Management Group, Phoenix Exploration, Three Rivers I, Titan Operating, and Vantage Energy.
Mr. Beard received his B.A. from the University of Illinois at Urbana.
Tom Tyree
CHAIRMAN
Mr. Tyree, together with members of Apollo Management, founded Northwoods Energy LLC in January 2018. He currently serves as Chairman of the Company.
Prior to Northwoods Energy, Mr. Tyree was the co-founder, President, CFO and board member of Vantage Energy LLC, a private equity-backed E&P company which was sold to Rice Energy for $2.7 billion in late 2016.
From 2003-2006, Mr. Tyree served as Chief Financial Officer of Bill Barrett Corporation, leading its IPO in 2004. Prior to Bill Barrett, from 1989-2003, he was an investment banker at Goldman, Sachs & Co., serving as Managing Director in the Energy Group.
Mr. Tyree is also a member of the Board of Directors of Bonanza Creek Energy. Mr. Tyree holds an MBA from the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania and a B.A. from Colgate University, where he currently serves as a member of the Board of Trustees.
Ryan Birkenfeld
Chief Executive Officer
Mr. Birkenfeld currently serves as Chief Executive Officer of Northwoods Energy.
Prior to Northwoods Energy, Mr. Birkenfeld was the co-founder, President and CEO and board member of Roundtable Energy, an Apollo Management backed E&P company focused on the Powder River Basin. Mr. Birkenfeld has 20 years of diversified upstream experience, beginning his career at Exxon. Mr. Birkenfeld was previously the Area Manager at EOG Resources for the Powder River Basin and Director of L48 Unconventional Resource Exploration at Apache Corporation.
Mr. Birkenfeld holds a B.S. and an M.S. in Geology from Oklahoma State University and an MBA from the Cox School of Business at SMU.
Nathan Wells
CHIEF FINANCIAL OFFICER
Mr. Wells is Chief Financial Officer of Northwoods Energy with responsibility for all corporate functions including finance, treasury, hedging, accounting, tax, midstream/marketing, information technology, and legal. Mr. Wells has broad experience in finance and accounting in both private industry and public accounting.
Mr. Wells was Chief Accounting Officer and Controller at Jonah Energy LLC, a private-equity backed E&P company, and has worked extensively in both the E&P and midstream segments of the energy industry. In addition, Mr. Wells has over 11 years of “Big 4” experience at KPMG and Arthur Andersen providing consulting and audit services.
Mr. Wells has an M.S. in Accounting and a B.S. in Computer Information Systems from the University of Colorado at Boulder, and serves as a professional mentor for students of his alma mater at the Leeds School of Business (Boulder).
Hunt Walker
VICE PRESIDENT OF LAND
Mr. Walker is Vice President of Land for Northwoods Energy with responsibility for all land activities of the Company.
From 2013-2018, Mr. Walker was the Vice President of Land for Samuel Gary Jr. & Associates, an E&P company primarily focused on Kansas and the Permian Basin. Previously, Mr. Walker was a founding member of Bill Barrett Corporation in 2002, and served as its Senior Vice President Land until 2013. Prior to Bill Barrett Corporation, Mr. Walker owned an oil and gas land consulting business focused on the Rocky Mountains.
Mr. Walker has a B.A. in Geography from Middlebury College and holds the CPL designation from the American Association of Professional Landmen.
